Blue Capricorn does not make music for background noise. The project of award-winning Mexican-Argentine, Dallas-based artist Rodrigo Caraballo-Marin is an exercise in world-building, a meticulous construction of sound and emotion that demands and rewards close listening. His work weaves together the ethereal beauty of indie rock, the dreamy allure of psychedelia, and the introspective depths of electronic soundscapes. It is music that envelops you.

That immersive quality is on full display on “honest,” a collaboration with Cuban-American artist and producer LOREN KOLE. The single, which blends indie pop, Latin indie, and art pop, unfolds through a carefully curated palette of sounds. Lush synths provide a warm, glowing foundation. Delicate keys and atmospheric guitars add texture and depth. Restrained percussion keeps the emotional core of the song at the forefront, never overpowering the vocals or the vulnerability they carry.

Caraballo-Marin’s influences are evident but never derivative. Drawing from artists like Massive Attack, Portishead, Nosaj Thing, and Nicolas Jaar, he has developed a sound that is distinctly his own. His music often carries a melancholic yet hopeful tone, grounded in vulnerability and raw emotion. It is a balancing act that few artists can manage, but Caraballo-Marin makes it seem effortless.

On “honest,” that balance is achieved in part through his collaboration with Kole. The two artists share a sensibility that goes beyond genre. “LOREN and I shared a lot of the same interests in music, most commonly the feeling that music gave us and what we hoped to communicate through our own work,” Caraballo-Marin explains. That shared feeling is the invisible architecture of the song, the framework upon which its lush sonic world is built.

The track is the third single from “when you come back, transcend me,” Blue Capricorn’s forthcoming second EP. The seven-track project promises to continue his exploration of vulnerability, longing, and self-discovery, moving between ambient textures, experimental production, indie rock influences, and emotionally direct songwriting. If “honest” is any indication, it will be a journey worth taking.
