Pillowcase, the new single from Kelsey Feral, arrived October 20, 2026. Known as Feral until summer 2026, she changed her name across all platforms, making her simpler to locate in a search. It’s the third single from her forthcoming second album. The album deals with a relationship with a PhD candidate in Philosophy that lasted from 2023 until 2024. It covers all aspects of the relationship and its demise. The album is due out later.

She writes under her real name, Kelsey Ferrell. Feral began writing once the relationship was over, then started the album from 30 books her ex either loved or was drawing on for his dissertation.

The record, which boasts baroque, alternative, experimental, dream and synth pop vibes, is reminiscent of the styles of Halsey, Ethel Cain, M83, Zella Day, BETWEEN FRIENDS, Erin LeCount and panicbaby. Produced, mixed and mastered by Gerry Hirschfeld, it’s Kelsey Feral integrating her style with these pop styles further than on her 2025 EP Overreacting, which ranged from punk to country and beyond.

“Pillowcase” is a tale of realizing you need to go after you’ve heard far too many excuses. The lyrics deal with Kelsey and her ex and his lack of care in basic hygiene. He only owned one set of sheets and had been sleeping with multiple women on them. And to make things worse, he hadn’t washed them before she came over. She told him how disrespectful that was. She bought him a second set. But the next time, he hadn’t washed them. He was 30. She ended it.

“Like girl, stand up, that’s not a cute gift, that’s a reason to leave,” Feral said. The song offers an anecdote on a lack of basic care and how sometimes you need to look back and realize that it’s time to go. While the song is self-explanatory, the philosophy content isn’t quite as heavy as it is on other album tracks.

Kelsey Feral is a California-based author, filmmaker, stand-up comic and musician. She has a BA from UC Berkeley and an MFA in creative writing from UC Riverside, where she and her ex were graduate students together. She got her first taste of traction in the indie rock scene with her 2018 album, Trauma Portfolio. She hit her stride with her DIY punk song “Fuck the Bourgeoisie,” garnering over 1.5 million streams on Spotify. It went viral on TikTok and found its way onto the soundtrack of Season 1 of Amazon Prime’s We Were Liars in 2025.

Look out for a music video for “Pillowcase,” the follow-up to her 2026 singles “Turn You” and “Slip & Fall.”
