Tommy Arch Releases New Double A-Side “Lovehearts & The Cold Side of the Bed”
Out September 4, 2026 | Produced by Alex Blamire & Tommy Arch
North East England singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tommy Arch is set to release his new double A-side single, “Lovehearts & The Cold Side of the Bed,” on September 4, 2026. Written by Arch and recorded at Polestar Studios in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne, the two-track release explores contrasting sides of love, heartbreak and emotional vulnerability through a distinctive blend of country, soul, blues and folk.
Raised in the seaside town of Whitley Bay, Tommy Arch grew up immersed in the music of legendary artists including Bob Marley, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison. Before stepping forward as a solo artist, he spent more than a decade touring the UK and European circuits as a drummer, bass player and guitarist, performing with acts including Holy Moly and the Crackers, Ruth Lyon and The Buffalo Skinners.
His solo work combines raw guitar playing, a captivating vocal presence and deeply personal songwriting. In recent years, Arch has opened for acclaimed artists including blues star Cristone “Kingfish” Ingram, Damian Lewis, Eddie 9V and Early James, while also touring the UK with modern folk artist Beans On Toast. He has subsequently established his own headline shows across the country, including performances in London and Edinburgh.
“Lovehearts” takes a heartfelt country approach to the highs and pitfalls of casual love, featuring Newcastle-based singer-songwriter Hels Pattison on backing vocals. Meanwhile, “The Cold Side of the Bed” moves into darker territory, delivering a dramatic 6/8 blues influenced by the emotional intensity of Etta James and focusing on the pain of losing love.
The release follows Arch’s 2025 project “The Wind That Blew South,” recorded with Kitty and Lewis Durham of Kitty, Daisy & Lewis and at Polestar Studios, with the sessions captured straight to tape. The new double A-side continues that organic, vintage-inspired approach while showcasing Arch’s evolving identity as a songwriter and performer.
Reflecting on the recording process, Arch explains that he wanted both songs to inhabit the same musical world as his previous EP before moving toward an album. Most of the performances feature Arch himself, with Alex Blamire producing alongside him, while Ben Fitzgerald contributed lead electric guitar and Calum Howard added piano and Hammond organ.
To celebrate the release, Tommy Arch will perform a headline show with his band at The Cumberland Arms in Newcastle upon Tyne on September 11, following an appearance at The Finna Sessions at The Red Lion in Alnmouth on September 6.
With “Lovehearts & The Cold Side of the Bed,” Tommy Arch continues to establish a compelling voice within the UK roots and singer-songwriter landscape—one that brings together timeless influences, authentic musicianship and a distinctly personal perspective on love and life.
