Some songs need a visualiser to explain them. ‘Poison Rain’ isn’t one of those, but Nanseera’s new visualiser for the track earns its place anyway, adding weight rather than decoration to a song that was already carrying plenty.

Written after the Supreme Court’s ruling to weaken the Voting Rights Act, and recorded in just three sessions after a breakthrough writing session at Nashville’s Song Suffragettes House, ‘Poison Rain’ has always been about urgency. The vertical visualiser keeps that same energy, closing with a message of support for those marching across the southern United States against the ruling’s consequences, a reminder that Nanseera sees the song as part of a wider moment rather than separate from it.

Born in London and raised across Uganda, Ethiopia and the US before settling in Nashville, Nanseera continues to write from lived experience rather than commentary. The instrumentation, acoustic guitar, dobro, banjo, upright bass and drums, gives ‘Poison Rain’ its distinctive back porch gothic character, apocalyptic yet hopeful in equal measure.
