Darshae Kiér Keeps Moving on New Single ‘This Path’
Some songs are about where you’ve been. Darshae Kiér’s new single, ‘This Path’, is more interested in the moment you decide to stop letting it steer.
The Miami-based singer, songwriter and producer frames the track as the space between the road behind and the road ahead, where the past still carries weight but no longer gets the final say. It might mean chasing a dream you nearly gave up on. It might mean walking away from something you’ve outgrown. Or it might just mean taking the next step.
That feeling doesn’t sit still on record. ‘This Path’ is built on high-energy dance-pop and electronic production, so a song about uncertainty arrives with a pulse that pushes forward rather than looking back. It’s a smart contrast. The lyric weighs things up; the beat has already made its mind up.
Kiér calls his sound cinematic pop, and the description fits. His songs start with his own experience. He lost his mother as a child and spent years in foster care, and it was at a piano, pressing one key and then another, that he first found somewhere to put what he couldn’t say. But he isn’t trying to narrate his life. The idea running through his work is that a song can begin with one person and end with another, the listener hearing their own memories, their own choices, their own unfinished roads.
‘This Path’ leans into that idea more openly than anything he has released so far. It follows ‘Velvet Damage’, ‘Ride With You’ and ‘Level Up’, each a different moment on the same journey, and turns towards what happens when where you’ve been stops deciding where you’re going.
It’s a hopeful record without being a naive one. The weight of the past is acknowledged, and then the song keeps moving anyway.
As Kiér puts it, the song may begin with him. Where it leads is yours.
‘This Path’ is out now.
