Jake Pattinson Reveals New Single ‘Part Of Me’
There is a particular kind of nostalgia that arrives without warning, triggered by a place, a face or a memory you thought you had already left behind. Jake Pattinson captures that feeling beautifully on his third single, “Part of Me”. The self-produced singer-songwriter from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, combines widescreen indie rock with intimate storytelling to create a song about the emotional traces people leave behind long after a relationship has ended.
Built around shimmering synths, acoustic and electric guitars and a steady 120 BPM pulse, “Part of Me” has the expansive quality of a late-night road song. There are echoes of The Killers in its broad indie rock sound, while the storytelling carries the emotional directness associated with artists such as Sam Fender and Bruce Springsteen. Pattinson brings those influences together without losing the personal character at the center of his songwriting.
The story behind the song makes its emotional weight particularly striking. Pattinson draws from a series of moments that stayed with him after a breakup, including an unexpected Christmas Eve phone call from his former partner and a chance encounter in a Harrogate pub with someone connected to her family. These memories are not presented simply as recollections of a former relationship. Instead, they become reminders of an entire world that disappeared when the relationship ended.
That wider sense of loss is what gives “Part of Me” its depth. Pattinson explores the friends, family members, familiar pubs and different versions of ourselves that can become intertwined with another person. His songwriting recognizes that moving on is not always about forgetting someone. Sometimes it means accepting that pieces of the past remain part of who you are, even when you have continued down a different road.
The independent production only strengthens that intimacy. Much of the song was recorded in Pattinson’s spare bedroom, with drums recorded by his friend Nuno Oliveira in a loft, giving the track a handmade quality that suits its subject matter. Even the artwork comes directly from the story, featuring a photograph taken by the former partner who inspired the song. “Part of Me” ultimately feels like a song about ghosts, but not necessarily frightening ones. These are the memories that occasionally return, reminding us where we have been and how much of those places and people we still carry with us.
